airport scenes

I was in the airport as early as 4:00am sometime last month. I was with my mother to send off my youngest sister to Manila for a weeklong training at her work. The flight is at 6:00am yet but my sister was so anxious she didn't want to be left behind and that her boss told them to be around at exactly 4:00am. Of course, the boss arrived late! Anyways, while waiting, lots of thoughts came rushing to my mind as i saw travellers and employees alike coming in and out of the gates.

Airports can take part in a lot of moments in our lives and feelings in our hearts. That is very well depicted in the movie The Terminal starred by Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

In the corners of my mind, i think:

- if i travel, i think my clothes won't be enough for the allowable weight of luggage. You see, it is not easy to just pick from my favorite ones. I don't understand that famous cliche on travelling light. I can't travel light, huh! How's that possible?!?

- airports can turn into a fashion runway. Some people arrive in their best suits, some sport their most comfortable shorts and shirts duo. Some wear their skimpiest outfits while others will don some prissy pieces. And believe me, i saw someone wearing something close to a gown! There's also someone who puts on a long sundress, i think she's about to go the beach? She looked pretty on it though.

- airports can be both happy and sad. Imagine this, someone has to leave and someone has to be left behind. Need i say more?

- airport is a destination in itself. It is where recollection can happen and it is also where farewells commence.

- i should travel. But i don't have money, so, there you go.

I'm really excited at the thought of flying again. I wanna see myself in the crowd fondly pulling my luggage and checking how i look. Oh, i can't wait!

Well, shall i see you in the airport?

notebooks at lower prices

I see lots of banners anywhere i go. Major malls in the city are having lots of promotional gigs in time for the halloween. I'm not thinking of buying something for halloween. If only for costumes, i can surely improvise. I'm looking for sale items i can buy. It's never too early to start christmas shopping right? After all, it's already November. It's a good thing that shopping can get so handy through shopping online. You don't wait in queue and you don't tire your feet. A friend sent out a text message while i'm thinking about shopping but spending less. She was asking where she could buy a laptop at minimal prices because her father-in-law is in town and wanted to buy one. If i were her, i'd definitely buy this Acer Aspire Notebook for only $399.00. Do you know that its list price could go as high as $899.00? Hmnn that's a bit much. But with free shipping on top of the lowered price, i would be able to save as much as $500.00. That's a lot of extra money for other things i can buy. I should see her tomorrow and tell her about this great item at reasonable price.

movies and me #3

Girl: Do you like music?
Boy: More than food...

That single line uttered by the male lead character struck me most. Actually, the lead character is a kid aged 11 who believed that through his music, he'll meet his parents. He grew up in an orphanage and never cease to believe that one day, he'll be reunited with his biological parents. He ran off from the orphanage because he wanted to be out in the open. He strongly believe that his parents were also looking for him.

Do watch the movie August Rush and be moved by how this young boy met his parents through his passion for music. You'd be amazed! It's also a tale of two people in love who were separated yet fate brought them back. :)

And by the way, do you not think that August Rush is a very cool name? I sure think it is!

travelling bag

I'm just recalling how lucky i am to have some friends who are always ready to help me when i need them. When i travelled outside the country for the first time, to Michigan that is, I didn't have any winter clothes. I didn't have any travelling bag. I was gonna just stay for 3 weeks so i thought buying new ones is really not a necessity. One friend who just arrived from Spain after an offshore assignment let me borrow her winter clothes. Another friend who just came from Norway to visit her older sister let me borrow her travelling bag. It was a red Samsonite bag so perfect for my stuff. I can't thank them enough. Because of them, i made my journey without having to spend so much. :) Though i had to buy another bag later because my stay was extended. I stayed for 2 months instead of 3 weeks only.

69,500

69,500. That's not a plain figure. I'm neither just refering to a plain number. I'm actually talking about a whooping 69,500 amount of money in peso denomination. Probably not too much right? But hey, if i say i just bought a P69,500 bag. Would you be awed? Well, i did not buy anything for that amount. I can't afford it! Toinks! But i read in a magazine about bags owned by celebrities. I think i felt dizzy converting the dollar values to pesos. A bag worth $1500.00???

If i have that amount of money, that would either let me:

1. travel to two Asian countries. Hongkong and Singapore. Singapore and Thailand. Thailand and Hongkong. I just have to make my choice. Or just one country maybe if i'll go shopping.
2. send my younger sister to college for maybe about 2.5 years.
3. buy at least 50 local bags. See i can go a month with different bag each day.
4. buy at least 50 local shoes. Wow! I can be a little Imelda with this.
5. buy new sets of clothes. Whoaah no-uniform-days will be very exciting!
6. eat in Shangrila everyday for a month. Huh! I've been wanting to go there. Hmnnn.
7. go to Palawan and Boracay again.
8. go to more local tourist destinations - Club Serena, Abaka Resort, Plantation, Shangrila.
9. go to America or Europe! (friends from there will feed me, heheh!)
10. pay off my debts most importantly. LOL!

But if someone gives me a P69,500 bag, i'd be more than willing to accept it! :D

unlimited quotes #8

"There are moments when troubles enter our lives and we can do nothing to avoid them. But they are there for a reason. Only when we have overcome them will we understand why they were there."
— Paulo Coelho (The Fifth Mountain)

So true... but at times, it's really just so difficult to fathom things.

businessminded

I have a friend who doesn't like to work so much around offices. You know the type of work where you have to be trapped for 8 hours or so. Reporting dutifully 5 days a week or 6 days even. She hates that! She is not lazy or something. She just prefers to work on her own small scale businesses which she hope eventually will grow big later. She is currently looking into some auto parts franchises together with another friend of hers. I think it's kind of cool. If you have your own business, you are a boss to yourself and you can do so much with your time. But i don't know, i don't have that business stuff in mind. I probably just don't have the capital! LOL! :D

formidable hobby

I'm really not into reading books. It seldom happens that i can finish reading one. I'm only good in the beginning and then laziness will get the most out of me. I realized reading can be very powerful. Where else do you get all those stock of information if not by reading? I should try and get on with this hobby. I should read more books and learn new things. Of course, things cannot be learned by reading alone, but it will start from reading.

beauty product must have

A woman's beauty locker can get so complicated. From our hair down to the tips of our toes, demands a corresponding product. For the hair alone, there's the shampoo, conditioner, spa, hot oil treatment, etc. For the face, there's the moisturizer, facial mask, facial scrub, toner, etc. For the body, there's the whitening lotion, firming lotion, anti-aging lotion, anti-cellulite lotion, etc. Just a lot of beauty products to apply i sometimes get crazy thinking which one i should apply first. But if there's one product i should have and maintain right now, it's gotta be a female fat burner, definitely. Why not? With my habit of eating too much and not exercising, i could so use an aid.

pink mp3 player

Anywhere you go today, malls, shops, markets, everything seems to be just expensive. It's what is everyone is clamoring now a days. I've talked with some friends from other countries and they told me the same things. They are also suffering from economic crisis. Well, we are all obviously in a tough situation right now. I guess it's just a matter of descipline and knowing when and what to buy. In buying commodities, it's always great if we get to purchase them at sale prices right? Getting discounts or freebies or buying stuff at a lesser amount than usual is a sure saving. It also eases that guilt feeling of buying something that you can just put off and not buy at all. But right now, i really wanted to have a new mp3 player. We are no longer allowed to use headphones inside the office unless it's not connected to the PC/workstation. That's just so boring. I can't live without music! Imagine my delight when i saw this InVion 2GB pink mp3 player online. You know how i get ecstatic about stuffs of pink shade. It's really cute and it's not just an mp3 player. It's an mp3 music, video and photo player. Most of all, it'll just cost me $16.99. That means, i get to save $53.00 because list price is about $69.99. Plus shipping is totally free so this is really a great deal. I can't wait to have this cute pinky music player. I already have my songs ready for download. I'm so relieved, i get to have a music player and i get to save. You too, check out the item i just mentioned. You might just as well love it.

mother instincts or plain paranoia

I'm not yet a mother and I can't seem to distinguish - help me identify if you can. Let me cite two situations for your judgement.

Situation #1:
I was in a children's party (sort of) organized by a colleague who wanted to celebrate his birthday with the kids in Tabor Hills, a community somewhere in Talamban. One mother was cheering for his son who joined in one of the games while carrying an infant at the same time. The infant was resting on her shoulder and she could not see what the infant was doing. The poor infant was trying to open a jelly candy using his one hand and his mouth. I was so alarmed when i saw the baby! What if he choked and the plastic must be dirty! I was thinking, why is the mother not paying attention to her baby? I tapped the mother's shoulder and told her to watch for her baby. The mother just gave me a look i can't identify and lazily got the candy from her baby's hand. Huh! What if! What if the baby choked!?

Situation #2:
Was inside a jeepney on my way home and then 3 passengers embarked - a mother tagging along 2 boys, ages 4-7 maybe. I assume 'twas her sons. They sat at the corner, rear of the jeepney near the steps. The boys were seated at the rear end and i was in front of them. In the middle of the trip, i noticed that the boys were sleeping and they would tend to dislodge everytime the driver made a sudden stop or turn. I was so horrified they might fall from their seats and roll. I took a look at the mother who was just sitting calmly. She didn't even bother to put her arms in front of the kids to at least protect them. A few more minutes and i can't take the rather dangerous scene in front of me anymore. I told the mother, "hey, your kids are sleeping, watch out for them, they might fall." I thought i sounded like a 45-year-old woman who had so much experience around kids. The mother did not respond and she just sat still! I was irritably disgusted. The mother must have noticed my furious look and she gave out a sigh and an expression all the more i couldn't identify like the mother in situation #1. I thought, for a moment she just gave me an attitude and then she extended her hand to hold the jeepney railing. Her right hand now in front of her kids. That's when i felt a bit relieved. What if! What if the kids fall from the jeepney!?

Now, tell me what it is. Mother instincts or plain paranoia or is it something else?

inseparable

I always thought that the software development and software validation sections in the office are inseparable. Previously, validation section as a whole reports to the development section. Eventually, we (validation group) were separated and we got our own Lead Engineer. We were already separate entities but still under the same manager. I never thought that we would be separated to a larger extent. Right now, the management is looking into making 3 major departments - hardware development, software development and software validation. We are going to have a new manager solely for our group. The question now is what's going to be the job descriptions of this new manager since we already have a Team Leader (who has Lead Engineers) who currently reports to the current Software/Validation/Hardware manager. There seems to be a redundancy of positions here but top management must have given this much thought already. Well...

shopping by bulk

Often, i prefer to go mall hopping or shopping or going to street markets alone. Being alone, i can go anywhere i want without having to worry if my companion is tired already or doesn't like walking around too much. But shopping with friends has advantages too. For one, strolling could never get boring. Second, you get to have some thoughts from them if what you're buying is good or not. Another vantage i could see is that you get to save. How so? When you shop with friend/s, you could buy wholesale items. In my experiences, items that are sold in bulk are lesser when compared to purchasing them by piece. Even alone, buying items in large quantities is good especially if you're starting to make your christmas list already. :)

movies and me #2

Generally, I like the HBO series Sex & The City. I'm done watching all the 7 seasons yet i still watch some of the episodes over and over again.

There's this line spoken by one of the female lead stars, Sarah Jessica Parker, as Carrie, that i like the most. I'm not really sure if this is the same exact line but it goes like:

"I realize i still have faith... faith in myself that someday there will be that someone for me who is sure to himself that i am the one." - Carrie Bradshaw

i gotta have my own flash drive

I mentioned earlier that i want a laptop. Really, i want to have one. Well, i actually have one but i don't own it personally. I have one from work and I brought it at home because I get tired carrying it everyday nor on weekends. So whenever i wanted to finish some tasks at work, I'd go crazy looking for portable storage devices. I have an mp3 player which can store up to 512MB of data but it's just not enough. I would need more than a gig of free disk space. I have been really wanting to buy a new one with bigger capacity but i just never got around to it. I always get lazy running into some shops in the mall. I was really planning to go the mall tomorrow but i guess i'm changing plans. I just found some great deals over the internet. Pretty what i need and it's on sale for only $11.50. Yes, it's a 4GB flash drive at a very low price of $11.50. Don't think that i'll be spending more on the shipment instead because shipping is totally free. Yes, you read it right, shipping is free. Now, i won't have to worry anymore on where to save my files. This would really come handy. Also, really do check out their site. They have lots of items sold at reasonable prices. More importantly, you get to shop at the comforts of your home. Lots of electronic gadgets with great deals - a haven for budget conscious people.

wake me up when september ends

by Green Day

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends

like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends

summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/e9 ]
wake me up when september ends

ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when september ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when september ends

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when september ends

like my father's come to pass
twenty years has gone so fast
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends
wake me up when september ends

Uhuh!!!! It's October already!!!!!
